Ministry of Family and Gender has, along with the United Nations Development Programme, inaugurated a workshop to validate their Gender Equality Action Plan.
Aiminath Shifana, the ministry’s permanent secretary, said that Maldives has attained considerable developments in gender equality.
She further said that the workshop is a considerable step in tackling discrimination based on gender and will serve the ministry’s agenda on the issue.
The action plan includes roles for various statutory bodies and non-government organizations relevant to gender equality.
A total of 49 groups of representatives are participating in the workshop, including 13 state institutions, 15 NGOs, and five United Nations offices.
