Maldives’ largest opposition Party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has sent a letter to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, asking to clarify the position of Dr. Abdullah Khaleel in Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).
In the letter sent by MDP to former President Maumoon asked to clarify whether a letter had been sent by Dr. Abdullah Khaleel under PPM name and if yes, what his position within PPM.
The breakaway Y-faction of PPM on Tuesday threatened legal action if the Party’s name is not removed from the statement issued by opposition parties condemning the en masse suspension of lawyers.
The faction’s press conference noted that they had sent letters to opposition parties and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to remove the Party’s name from the statement. A deadline of 3pm on Tuesday was issued with the faction’s Deputy Leader Abdul Raheem Abdullah warning of legal action.
