MP Mahloof ‘praises’ Broadcom’s Sofwan
Tweet came following pictures of Sofwan exiting Muleeaage
Many questioned integrity of members
Most of Commission had directly promoted President Yameen

Galolhu South Constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof has rained ‘praise’ on Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) member Ismail Sofwan, after the member was seen exiting Muleeaage, casting doubts on the integrity of the member.

Muleeaage is currently used for political activities conducted by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

In the tweet posted on Thursday, MP Mahloof said that one could see the member ‘exit [the premises] after completing his work independently’.

MP Mahloof’s tweet came amid severe criticism of the Commission and its members. Most of the public had raised doubts over the impartiality of its members, especially given how most of the Commission had, at one time or the other, worked directly to promote President Abdullah Yameen and worked in the office of the First Lady.

Commission’s President is veteran journalist Mohamed Shaheeb while Mohamed Aslam serves as his Deputy. Zeena Zahir, Fathimath Zaina, Hassan Nabah, Ismail Sofwan and Aminath Saharath Izzath serves as members of the Commission. Zeena Zahir and Fathimath Zaina had worked in the First Lady’s Office prior to their appointment to the Commission. Hassan Nabah had worked in promoting the President prior to his appointment to the Commission, while Sofwan had served in the Asuruma media platform.
