Raud Ahmed Zilaal of G. Eriyadhoo has pleaded guilty to the charge filed against him in connection with a youth found injured on a Malé rooftop on the morning of 18 April 2025.
The Prosecutor General’s Office filed the case in late May, charging Raud with failing to provide assistance to a person in need without a reasonable excuse.
A hearing was held on Wednesday.
According to the PG Office, Raud was aware that Yumnu had fallen from a ventilation window in the ninth-floor stairwell of H. Fentenoy onto the rooftop of H. Mithaaz at around 04:54am on April 18, yet he neither assisted him nor notified any authorities to seek help.
With Raud entering a guilty plea on Wednesday, the case will proceed under the summary judgment process, with sentencing to follow.
The standard penalty for the charge is one month and six days of imprisonment.
Raud was arrested and released twice in Yumnu's case. He was last released from custody following a letter sent by the Prosecutor General's Office instructing the police to do so.
Raud was not arrested under the first warrant issued for his arrest in connection with Yumnu's fall. However, he was taken to the police station for questioning. His urine test at the time came back positive for drugs.
As criticism began to mount over the police's handling of the case, on April 24, after arresting Raud, the police stated that he was suspected of being involved in Yumnu's fall. The police also alleged that Raud knew about Yumnu's fall.
