The sentencing hearing of RaajjeTV's chief operating officer, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa has been scheduled for 3 pm on Sunday (today).
His case was not there when the Criminal Court released its schedule for the day, and his name was added at 11 am on Sunday.
A sentencing hearing was also scheduled for August 10th, but was cancelled without a reason.
Fiyaz is charged with 'touching an officer without consent' over an arrest made in November 2015, while covering a bomb scare in the capital Malé City.
A statement released by RaajjeTV noted that the case raised by the Prosecutor General 'was based on non-existent grounds.
It noted that that Fiyaz had been dragged to court for the past year and half, despite there not being enough evidence to prosecute him.
Fiyaz was arrested with RaajjeTV journalists Mohamed Wisam and Leevaan Ali Nasir, who were subsequently charged with obstruction.
On 24th January 2017, Criminal Court found them guilty of obstruction, and had fined them MVR 28,800 each.
A seasoned journalist with 17 years of experience, Fiyaz said whatever the verdict 'I will not lose hope, and will come back and continue to say what I have to say, and write what I have to write'. This is the first time that Fiyaz has been accused of a crime, throughout his career.
