Parliament concluded for the day after taking votes on two proposals, amid the opposition protesting on the floor.
Speaker Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed entered the chambers surrounded by security officers- who surrounded the speaker's table for the whole duration- and head earphones on, as he conducted the meeting.
Despite opposition members protesting, Maseeh called for the reports by the Committee on National Security on the two proposals, which were read out by Guraidhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Riza.
The two proposals on today's agenda were; Mohamed Hussain Shareef's nomination as new High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, and for Maldives to participate in the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
Shareef was approved as High Commissioner to Sri Lanka with 28 votes, while 27 MPs voted in favor of Maldives participating in IORA.
While the whole process was rushed today, Parliament votes are normally held at 1:30 pm, after returning from break that day.
The next sitting is scheduled for Thursday.
