The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been fined for having called to gather in front of the police headquarters.
MDP had called on its supporters to gather in front of the police headquarters in Malé City through a post on the party’s official twitter account, after officers summoned Naaima Mohamed, a celebrated member of the party, for questioning.
A letter sent to the party on Saturday says that they are being fined for having repeatedly made such statements despite being warned to refrain from doing so.
MDP is required to pay a sum of MVR 60,000 in a period of seven days.
