In the ceremony held on Monday to open the “Rumaalu-2” campaign office, President Yameen said he and a number of Parliamentarians had been beneficiaries of the funds supplied by Adeeb. The President had called on those Parliamentarians to resign and get re-elected on their own merit. The former Governor is widely accused of having aided and abetted the graft, by amending procedures and rules to facilitate money laundering.
PPM had sought to elaborate on the President’s statements following media and public criticism. A statement released by the Party stated that opposition had twisted the President’s statements.
