A large stash of alcohol in police custody has been destroyed.
The bottles of alcohol were confiscated during multiple operations conducted by Maldives Police Service (MPS).
In a publication on Wednesday, the police institution revealed that the alcohol bottles were destroyed in Dhoonidhoo island.
Destroyed were 1,696 branded bottles, 23 PET bottles and 1,331 cans of beer.
64 other paraphernalia were destroyed as well including plastic bags, newspapers, cardboard boxes and bags.
The alcohol was destroyed under the supervision of the relevant police committee and under the set legal procedure for it.
The destroyed alcohol and beers included those in custody involved in filed cases, as well as bottles and cans taken into the custody of the Hulhumalé Police Station, tourist police as well as the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) in connection with incidents, where there were no records of accused suspects.
The alcohol also included bottles that were in police custody after the investigation stage concluded.
A large number of alcohol bottles and other such items have been seized during multiple raids conducted by the police in the congested Malé City as well as outlying atolls.
