Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s spouse, Mariyam Nashwa, has ‘reminded’ authorities that her husband, who is currently serving a thirty-three-year jail sentence, has dignity and a reputation as well.
She said this in a tweet on Tuesday night, insinuating that the former vice president is being slandered in public and reinstating that he has rights against defamation as well.
Nashwa sent out the tweet, having attached a copy of a Progressive Party of Maldives’ press statement regarding comments made against those that had addressed the party at a gathering earlier this week. She had a highlighted a phrase which asked that the ‘dignity and reputation’ of those that that had spoken at the assembly be respected.
President Abdulla Yameen and his administration has made a number of accusations against Adeeb, notably over an ongoing embezzlement scandal involving the state operated Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation.
President Yameen has gone as far as to say that Adeeb is being incarcerated and denied medical leave – to treat multiple health concerns – due to his refusal to return the stolen funds.
Adeeb’s family and lawyers have denied the accusations.
