Two men suspected of torching two motorcycles of police officers have been identified.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) publicized the identities of the two suspects accused of torching the two vehicles, on Sunday.
Spokesperson of MPS Ahmed Shifan took to social media platform ‘X’, noting that the arson attack on one of the two motorcycles occurred on August 1. The second one was torched in the early hours of Friday.
According to the police spokesperson, this was suspected to have been done by a group of suspects against a drug operation being conducted by the police in Noonu atoll.
Although Shifan did not disclose any further details regarding the case, MPS on Sunday revealed the names of two individuals arrested in connection with the incident, in which two police motorcycles were damaged and set on fire, after threatening a law enforcement officers, families and property of the police officer stationed in Henbadhoo island.
They were arrested under a court order on Sunday.
Arrested were Ilyas Ibrahim, 33 and Mohamed Irushad, 33.
Both are native to Henbadhoo island.
The police spokesperson in his ‘X’ post, added that such a cowardly act would not sway the confidence and determination of the police institution in the slightest.
Shifan said that this is a reminder to those who carry such perspectives.
