Three youths have been arrested and remanded over accusations of assault and kidnapping.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) sought from the Criminal Court to remand the three suspects.
The suspects aged 18 – 23 years are accused of using sharp and dangerous weapons to threaten, assault and kidnap individuals.
The court order, sought by the police institution, revealed that arrested were a 21-year-old native to Thimarafushi island of Thaa atoll, a 23-year-old native to Kandholhudhoo island of Raa atoll and an 18-year-old native to Gadhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
All three suspects are Maldivian men.
They have been remanded for a period of five days.
The case filed against the accused included sufficient evidence of the alleged crime.
These included statements of the victim, medical documents of the victim, photographs of the victim and CCTV snapshots.
They were remanded as per Section 16(a) of the Prevention of Intimidation, Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Objects Act.
However, since they asserted that they required legal representation, a five-day period was granted to them as per Section 14 of the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to prosecution.
