A 31-year-old Maldivian man was arrested

A man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the suspect was smuggling drugs into the Maldives through a courier service.

MPS revealed that officers of the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) conducted an operation in the capital Malé City on July 2, after receiving an intel report from the Maldives Customs Service.

A 31-year-old Maldivian man was arrested from the capital city, as part of the operation.

The police institution went on to reveal that officers confiscated 20 cartridges containing suspected narcotics, upon confiscating the package he had picked up via courier.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for his remand hearing, the 31-year-old has been remanded for a period of five days.

Further investigations are currently underway at the Drug Enforcement Department.
