Employees of Bank of Maldives (BML) have held a clean-up event in capital Malé City and southernmost Addu City.

The country’s national bank revealed this via a press release on Friday.

As such, BML revealed that their employees held a clean-up on Friday in preparation for the fasting month of Ramadan, which began on Monday.

Carried out across five different zones, the event saw employees cleaning coastal areas as well as land.

Further, the bank’s staff members freshly painted a few mosques as well.

According to the bank, four tons of debris and waste were collected from the locations including five jumbo bags, which were sent off to be recycled.

More than 200 individuals employed at BML took part in the clean-up event in the congested capital region, which was held in partnership with the Malé City Council, Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) and Dive Club Maldives.

As part of this programme, earlier this week staff stationed in Eydhafushi island of Baa atoll, Meedhoo island of Raa atoll, Nilandhoo island of Faafu atoll and Muli island of Meemu atoll also engaged in cleaning up the respective islands.
