Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar has stated that had he been one of the officers in the Parliament on Monday, he would have settled the matter by resorting to fist fights.
The statement was part of the leaked audio of Minister Adam Shareef meeting with officers of Special Protection Group (SPG) on Monday night following Parliament proceedings earlier in the day.
In the meeting Minister Shareef said the officers were working within legal limits and that he had full assurance the officers can carry out this.
He added the officers’ tolerance levels were very high.
‘I’m sure that the tolerance levels of officers here are higher than mine. If I was there today, I would have settled a person with a fist fight. But I know that you’re better, more patient, sincerer in your duties than that,’ he said.
The person in reference in the conversation was most likely a Parliamentarian who had protested on the floor.
Minister Shareef said that he saluted those officers over their valor and courage, adding that had the events been carried out by them, the damage on the nation would be worse.
‘I sincerely salute you. You all were composed in face of those attacks. If you had done that, the damage on the nation would be worse. I commend you all for staying while digesting all that was happening,’ he said.
