Presidential candidate for the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Ahmed Tariq (Tom) has delivered a strong message.

Tom was the first to submit the nomination papers for the FAM presidential election scheduled for January 2024. Since then, Vice Chairman of Club Eagles and current member of the FAM Executive Committee, Mufawiz Hashim (Mufa) has also submitted his nomination papers.

Tom and Mufa both submitted their nomination papers with the supporting letter from Club Valencia. However, Valencia have announced that they are supporting Tom, for the upcoming election. The club has stated that the letter circulating in their name is forged.

To confirm their stand for the upcoming election, Chairman of Club Valencia, Abdulla Azmin accompanied Tom when he submitted his papers.

Regarding the concerns that are being raised, Tom took to platform X to express his thoughts. In his post, Tom stated that he will not be stopping before the "ghost" that has been possessing FAM has been vanquished.

He also stated that he had received information of the Club Valencia's support letter being forged and disclosed that the club has sent a letter the FAM Electoral Committee explaining their stand. He also shared a picture of the letter in his post.

Tom also included the letter from the Sports Commissioner Tholal, accepting Azmin as the Chairman of Valencia.

Even though FAM's presidential election was scheduled to be held in January, the Sport's Commissioner had to postpone the election. However, FAM has stated that the association cannot postpone the election and that they will try to hold the election on the scheduled date.

The commission ordered the postponement of the election noting that FAM has violated some procedures.

Tom's post on X is believed to have sent a strong message to his opponents.

Tom has previously also served as the President of FAM, in 2016. However, a few days later, many members of Tom's executive committee resigned, forcing FAM to hold a new election.
