Judge Farhad Rasheed has been temporarily handed over the administration of the Civil Court.

This comes after the passing of the Chief Judge at the Civil Court, Ahmed Nimal Junaid.

Chief Judge Nimal passed away on 19 September 2023.

Nimal reportedly passed away due to gastric and breathing difficulties. Reports say that he was rushed to IGMH for treatment, however was declared dead by the time he was rushed to the hospital.

Chief Judge Nimal, native to Maamendhoo Island of Gaafu Alif Atoll passed away at the age of 36.

His funeral was held at the Hulhumale Cemetery following Duhr prayer, on Wednesday.

Chief Judge Nimal held a Bachelor of Laws degree in Sharia.

He commenced his tenure as a Civil Court Judge in March 2022. 

Following Chief Justice Abdulla Ali's retirement on August 22, 2022, he took on the interim duties of the Chief Justice of the Civil Court before being formally appointed on May 9, 2023.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) decided to temporarily hand over the administration of the Civil Court to Judge Farhad Rashid, effect from 20 September, 2023.

The Chief Justice of Maldives has decided to lower the flag of the judiciary for the next three days from September 20 following the death of Judge Nimal.
