MP Faris Maumoon has attended the remand hearing over bribery allegations, which he was arrested for on Tuesday.
The parliamentarian was escorted from his detention on Dhoonidhoo island at around 10:45 am on Wednesday.
Faris Maumoon is facing allegations of bribing parliamentarians ahead of a vote of no-confidence against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh and during the passing of a bill which raised the number of signatures required to pursue no-confidence motions against parliament speakers and their deputies in April.
Police had begun searching Faris’ residence on Tuesday morning with a court warrant.
The court order says that the apartment was searched as part of the ongoing investigation of attempted bribery allegations against members of the opposition.
Police had confiscated multiple items from the residence, including documents and storage devices.
