Seven Covid-19 cases were confirmed across the Maldives within the past five weeks.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) publicized the number of Covid-19 infections reported between July 1 to August 5.

As such, the figures publicized showed that a total of seven new Covid-19 cases were confirmed across the Maldives within this period.

Out of these, five were confirmed from the congested capital of Maldives, Malé City and the remaining two were confirmed from others, which include industrial islands, liveaboard vessels and resorts.

No new infections were detected from residential islands outside of the capital in the reporting period.

With this development, Maldives Covid-19 case tally currently sits at 186،694.

In April 2020, the Maldives recorded its first Covid-19 fatality. 316 deaths attributed to Covid-19 have been documented since then. In the previous five weeks, there were no new fatalities reported.

Despite the Covid-19 caseload spiraling downward, the widespread common cold infections have alarmingly increased under the deteriorating weather.

Authorities have urged caution as the common cold is also a respiratory disease that can quickly spread within close proximity.

The public has been urged to seek immediate medical assistance and consult a doctor if they are having common cold symptoms such as persistent cough, fever and sneezing for an extensive period or if they are considered high-risk individuals.
