A number of cancer patients, and those who suffer from terminal illnesses, are in that situation due to widespread corruption in the country, said pro-government lawmaker Ahmed Siyam.
At a press conference where he talked about the ongoing floor-crossing case at the Supreme Court, Siyam said that corruption is a sin that God punishes in such regard.
Advocating in favour of the anti-defection laws, Siyam said that it is important that Maldivians refrain from ‘feeding families’ with illicitly acquired wealth.
He further said that a large number of funds are always exchanged in parliament whenever the floor is to decide on a significant matter.
“Some MPs make millions and some make hundreds of thousands, this needs to stop” Siyam said.
