Charges have been raised against lawyers for former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, Moosa Siraj and Mahfuz Saeed.
The two lawyers were summoned to Police on Saturday night, where their phones were confiscated for a period of three months.
Speaking to RaajjeMV Mahfuz and Siraj said the authorities had raised three criminal charges against them, for having alerted relevant bodies on the assassination attempt on Adeeb. The charges include, deliberately spreading false information, obstruction of a legal entity and obstruction of justice.
The two were summoned to Police on Saturday and informed of the nature of the charges raised against them. However, they had refused to give a statement, without their lawyers. Mahfuz said Police wanted to identity the officers from Police who had alerted on the assassination attempt.
‘We have previously informed that we will not divulge the sources,’ he said.
Mahfuz added that it would be more apt for Police to investigate the rumored assassination attempt rather than attempting to find out who had tipped of the attempt.
Siraj previously said the assassination attempt was tipped off by Police officers and had to keep their identities a secret, for their safety and Adeeb’s.
Mahfuz added that no law mandates that the source of information be revealed. However, he said it had called for protection to the sources. He said with the rumored assassination attempt they had kept a close eye on the former Vice President.
