Court has handed over formal charges on Dhiggaru Constituency MP and one of the senior figures in the opposition movement, Ahmed Faris Maumoon.
Faris is being charged with identity theft. He had attended court session on Tuesday regarding these charges.
MP Faris’ lawyer Maumoon Hameed said the case documents were handed over in accordance with the Penal Code. He said the preliminary hearings of the case will be held next. If the Court passes to proceed ahead with the case, then the trial will be held.
MP Faris is being charged with identity theft over the alleged use of the flag of ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM). Faris denies these charges, adding that he had not used either the Party’s flag or logo against the Party laws.
