National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided nine people with temporary shelter due to the fire that broke out in the Evening Café in Maafannu district of capital Male' City, on Wednesday.

NDMA states that a family of six and a three expatriate staff of the family were provided with temporary shelter.

Additionally, the staff of Evening Café, living in the cafe's accommodation block was provided temporary shelter by the café owner.

The fire was reported to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)'s Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) at around 06:12 pm on Wednesday. The FRS attended the case at once.

Reports so far disclose that the fire broke out in the cafe's kitchen. However, authorities are yet to confirm the exact reason for the fire.

The fire was completely controlled at around 07:22 pm.

Both the café and the accommodation block above the café was seriously damaged in the fire.

Authorities did not report any injuries due to the fire.

Vice President Faisal Naseem and Chief of Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal visited the site and clarified all the information regarding the case.
