Councilors from Dhaandhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll have shared housing concerns with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
During a meeting held with the members of the island council earlier this week, the president listened to their concerns, mainly revolving around the need for housing finance, the relocation of the island’s powerhouse currently located in a residential area as well as challenges fishermen face due to service interruptions at the ice plant and the installation of lights on the football ground that is under development.
MP for Dhaandhoo constituency, Yaugoob Abdulla joined the meeting.
Further, the island councilors thanked the president for the multiple development initiatives undertaken during his administration. They revealed that such efforts were not observed during the previous administrations.
Dhaandhoo councilors applauded the Solih administration’s efforts to empower women.
Discussions also touched down on concerns revolving around space constraints at the island school after higher secondary education was introduced, as well as the requirement for improved banking and healthcare services.
Councilors also stressed on the island community’s desire for a transshipment harbor in Huvadhoo Atoll.
Sharing the progress and latest updates on the ongoing and planned development initiatives on the island, President Solih assured that their concerns will be addressed.
The president also shed the light on the administration’s "Gedhoruveriya" national housing loan scheme introduced in June 2021 in accordance with the government’s pledge to introduce nationwide affordable housing options.
