SriLankan Airlines is to resume flight operations to southernmost Addu City.

After days since the operations were halted in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the flag carrier of Sri Lanka announced that they would be resuming flight operations to southernmost Gan, with the first direct flight between Colombo and Gan scheduled for December 4.

SriLankan Airlines’ General Sales Agent in the Maldives, Ace Aviation Maldives has since opened for reservations.

The airline will fly once a week between Colombo and Gan, on Saturdays.

Tickets for Maldivians who wish to catch these flights have been priced at USD 271.

The direct flights to Gan were launched in December 2016 and halted last year due to losses incurred by the airlines in the face of Covid-19.

Ace Aviation’s Managing Director Mohamed Firaq earlier revealed that flights cannot be scheduled to Addu City alone and that flights can be commenced if domestic flights were to begin in Huvadhu atoll.

SriLankan airlines will resume direct flights to Gan in collaboration with Maldivian.

According to Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar, SriLankan Airlines flights will be scheduled to link with Maldivian flights and that this will be increased with demand.
