Aminath Abdulla Zuhair has been appointed as the new president of the Employment Tribunal.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the appointment on Wednesday.
Alongside a new president, Solih also appointed Hassan Ibrahim as a vice president.
The appointees were already existing members of the tribunal and their appointment was effective from Wednesday.
Aminath has a Masters of Laws at Kingston University, United Kingdom and has been providing services for the tribunal since 25 March 2019.
The new president of the tribunal also served as a legal officer at the Civil Service Commission (CSC) as well as a legal consultant at the National Pay Commission, prior to joining the Employment Tribunal.
Aminath’s deputy, Hassan jointed the tribunal on 16 March 2020.
Hassan earlier served as a Director-General at the Prosecutor General’s Office as well as a director at the CSC. Other positions filled by Hassan include the Head of Department, MBA course coordinator and lecturer at the MNU Business School.
The newly appointed member holds a Masters in Management from Australian National University and a Bachelor of Arts in Shari’ah and Law from the Islamic University of Maldives.
Before Aminath, Amjad Musthafa, who was appointed on 16 March 2020, served as the president of the tribunal and before him Mohamed Zahir filled the position from September 2019 after the resignation of Ahmed Shifau who was appointed during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen in May 2018.
