Maldives is to confer the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzudheen, “Nishan Izzuddeen Izzathuge Verikan” to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

RaajjeMV understands through a source in India that PM Modi will be given the most honorable title conferred by the Maldives to a foreign national, during his visit to Maldives.

PM Modi is set to arrive in the country on Saturday morning, fresh off his re-election as India’s Prime Minister for a second term.

His two-day visit is on the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and he is set to address the Parliament on Saturday evening.

RaajjeMV also understands that the Indian PM will be inaugurating two projects in the country.

They are, the project to establish a Composite Training Center for the Maldives National Defense Force and the Coastal Surveillance Radar System to monitor and protect Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone.

It has also been confirmed that PM Modi will be signing agreements to train civil servants and the two countries will also be finalizing the currency swap agreement under SAARC, during his visit.

Previous recipients of the “Order of Nishan Izzuddeen” include the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip, Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, former President of South Korea, Chun Doo Hwan, former Secretary General of the Commonwealth Shridath Surendranath Ramphal and Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Order of “Nishan Izzuddeen” is among the highest ranking honours conferred by the State and is the highest ranking honour conferred on a foreign national.
