Opposition candidate for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has won the election for Male' City Mayor.
This is the first time a candidate from PPM was elected as Mayor in the Maldives' capital.
While MDP has always had a number of members within the Male' City Council over the past 10 years, this year's vote seems to signal a deep dissatisfaction with the party on behalf of long-term supporters in Male' City.

A heated disagreement has broken out over invalid votes at the Ghiyasuddin School polling center.
Raajje MV's reporter at the center shares that the disagreement was over invalid votes cast into the Villingilli balot box stationed in Ghiyasuddin School.
Due to conflict between the parties, counting of votes has been discontinued temporarily.
