Maldives Police Service (MPS) has issued summons on Abdul Aleem, Secretary General of the split faction of Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), led by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

Aleem has been ordered to present himself at 2030hrs on Thursday. The summons said that he was being summoned to Police in connection to a case under investigation, being carried out by General Investigations Department (DIG).

Aleem had previously been summoned to the Police as well. His phone was confiscated last month, with multiple summons to take statements. Then Police did not give a reason for the summons. Police media official said that they will release information on on-going cases when it was appropriate to do so.

His phone was confiscated on the grounds that he was suspect in the bribery attempt of Parliamentarians, in connection to the no confidence motions on Parliament Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
