State Trading Organization (STO) has announced changes to the prices of diesel and petrol, following the recent increase reported in international oil prices.

STO announced that the change in petrol and diesel prices will be effective beginning 21 February 2021. The price of a litre of petrol was increased by MVR 0.37 per litre from the previous price of MVR 8.07. From Saturday onwards, a litre of petrol will now sell for MVR 8.44 per litre.

STO also announced changes to the price of diesel under their fuel supply. A litre of diesel, which previously sold for MVR 8.71, will now sell for MVR 9.19, which is an increase of MVR 0.48.

The change in STO's prices for petrol and diesel have been attributed to an increase in international oil prices in recent days. STO noted that the company had previously reduced the prices of petrol and diesel several times as the state of the Covid-19 pandemic worsened in the Maldives.
