President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially dismissed Ali Waheed from the post of Maldives Minister of Tourism.
In a Tweet posted on Thursday, Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood revealed that the minister was dismissed on Thursday, after he failed to follow through with the president’s orders to resign.
Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail is temporary in charge of the tourism ministry’s affairs currently.
On Wednesday, the president asked the minister to resign after complaints lodged against him regarding inappropriate behavior towards employees at the ministry.
According to the employees, the minister has been sexually harassing employees “for a long time”.
This is to have happened during ministry’s trips to resorts.
Since then, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched a probe into the claims of sexual abuse.
