MTCC completes airport, harbor development projects in Maavarulu
These three development projects are expected to ease services offered from the Maavarulu Airport
The airport development project was mobilized on August 5, 2019 and costs MVR 12.1 million
The other projects were valued at MVR 57.04 million and MVR 18.1 million respectively

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed three major development projects in Gaaf Dhaal Maavarulu.

As such, the company completed phase two of the airport development project in Maavarulu, located at the south-end of Gaaf Dhaal atoll near Kanduhulhudhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll on Tuesday.

MTCC revealed that the project was awarded to the company by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation on July 25 last year.

The project was mobilized on August 5, 2019 and costs MVR 12.1 million.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC has built a passenger terminal building, fire building, staff quarters, powerhouse, guard post and a restaurant.

In 2019, the company completed the construction of the airport’s runway, taxiway and apron under the first phase of the project. The runway measures 1,200 meters by 30 meters, the taxiway measures 60 meters by 15 meters and the apron measures 120 meter by 45 meters.

Valued at MVR 57.04 million, this project was awarded to the company on March 15, 2018 and mobilized on April 6, the same year.

MTCC also completed the work to extend the island’s harbor under which includes the construction of a 199-meter breakwater, a revetment measuring 30 meters, a quay wall measuring 50 meters as well as a paved area measuring 250 square meters.

Further, MTCC also installed navigational aids, mooring rings and streetlights as part of the project, valued at MVR 18.1 million. MTCC was contracted with the project on September 16, 2019 and it was mobilized on December 26, the same year.

These three development projects are expected to ease services offered from the Maavarulu Airport, revealed the company.
