Three arrested during drug operations in different regions
The operations were conducted in Velidhoo, Magoodhoo and Naifaru
Arrested were three men, 54, 44 and 26
All three cases are under further investigations

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has made a number of arrests during drug operations in several regions.

A 54-year-old Maldivian man was arrested during an operation conducted by the Velidhoo police station and Police Intelligence Unit on Friday.

Officers confiscated a 20-liter bottle filled with suspected alcohol and equipment as well as materials used in the production of alcohol, inside his residence.

Velidhoo police station is probing the case further.

In addition, a man in possession of narcotics was arrested for attempting to smuggle narcotics into Magoodhoo island, during an operation conducted by the Manadhoo police station and police intel on Friday morning.

Police intel was tipped off that the drugs were being smuggled through a boat en route from capital Malé City

A 44-year-old Maldivian man was taken into police custody from Magoodhoo harbor region and a packet stuffed with suspected narcotics was confiscated during the operation.

In a separate operation, officers stationed in Naifaru island collaboratively with the police intel arrested a 26-year-old Maldivian man on Thursday, following a tip-off regarding drug trafficking.

Upon searching him officers confiscated two pieces of cellophane filled with suspected narcotics.

Naifaru Magistrate Court has remanded the man by six days, in a location decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The case is under further investigations by the island’s police station.

The drug operations were conducted as part of the authority’s efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in the Maldives.
