An individual has been arrested from the Greater Malé Region for being in possession of narcotics.
In an operation conducted at around 1:50am, June 18 following a tip off, officers of the Villimalé police station arrested a 42-year-old Maldivian man.
The man was in possession of 2 rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics.
The case is under further investigation by the Villimalé police station.
Further, officers stationed in Velidhoo island have confiscated drugs from the island’s harbor region.
Following a tip off regarding drug trafficking to the police intelligence unit, Velidhoo police station and police intel officers conducted the operation at around 11:30pm, June 17.
Two packets filled with suspected narcotics were confiscated from the island’s harbor region.
No arrests have been made in connected to the Velidhoo case yet.
Velidhoo police station is investigating the case.
These operations were conducted as part of the authority's ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in the island nation.
