A disinfection programme has begun at the People’s Majlis following an employee at the premises testing positive for Covid-19.
The parliament premises were closed down after an employee working in the maintenance department tested positive for the virus on Wednesday and Majlis has since confirmed that they are working to implement all the safety and precautionary measures required.
As such, the disinfection programme began early Thursday, as contact tracing is also being carried out.
Majlis work will proceed once all the precautionary measures under the set guidelines, are put in place, reads a statement by the parliament.
Highlighting that precautionary measures were placed before beginning work, in the case such a situation surfaces, Majlis revealed that they aim to proceed with work alongside the measures required against the pandemic.
On Wednesday, the parliament’s Secretary General Fathmath Niusha confirmed the matter, adding that they cannot confirm the number of individuals that had come in contact with the employee yet.
Majlis employs a total of 140 individuals.
Sittings were held online from March 30 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, they resumed at the chamber in late May with the approval from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) under new guidelines.
