President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Aminath Ameena to the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).
Ameena, commonly known as Ana, was presented with her letter of appointment at a special ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday morning.
People’s Majlis approved Ana to the commission last Tuesday, with 63 lawmakers voting in her favour.
Ana’s professional and academic backgrounds pertain to the field of journalism. She completed her masters in journalism and media communications from the Maldives Islamic University (IUM), and had previously completed an undergraduate degree in journalism from the Maldives National University (MNU).
Prior to her appointment, Ana worked as the Senior Editor at VMedia. Additionally, she has completed several trainings in journalism, and is the recipient of two awards from the Maldives Media Council (MMC) celebrating excellence in journalism.
Broadcom comprises of seven members out of which four seats became vacant after Fathmath Zaina’s removal and three members resigned, back in 2019. Mariyam Waheedha, Ali Yoosuf and Ahmed Gais were appointed to the commission last December, with Waheedha elected president and Gais as vice president.
