103 Maldivians stranded in three countries due to the precautionary measures in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, have been repatriated on Sunday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that they arrived at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Sunday, via a flight of the Sri Lankan national airline.
Among the over 100 Maldivians repatriated are 71 who wished to return to the Maldives from Belarus and the United Kingdom.
Further, Maldivians stranded in Sri Lanka and being provided financial assistance from the government were also repatriated.
Only those being provided government assistance were repatriated from the neighboring country due to limited seat availability on the flight, said the ministry.
48 Maldivians were evacuated from Belarus, 23 from UK and 32 from Sri Lanka.
They were taken into quarantine facilities at around 11am on Sunday, after their flight landed and are to be released after they complete the required 14-day period in quarantine, and after testing negative for Covid-19, as per protocol.
