Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched an investigation into the sexual abuse of an elderly, reported to the authority on Thursday.

Police revealed that the case was reported to them at around 10:30am on Thursday and that the sexual abuse victim is an elderly.

MPS is yet to make any arrests into the sexual abuse case, reported from Meedhoo district of the southernmost city. No additional details have been disclosed by the authority yet.

This comes at a time the Covid-19 pandemic is wreaking havoc across the globe, and even though the country is currently battling the disease, the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has urged individuals suffering from sexual abuse or are in the know of such cases, to reach out to the authority, despite the current measures in place to contain the virus.
