No Maldivians were affected in the fire that broke out at residential tower in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

While the Maldives Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has tweeted that they were checking this, Communications Director at the Foreign Ministry, Miuvan Mohamed, confirmed to RaajjeMV that no Maldivians were affected due to the fire.

At least 12 people were wounded in the fire that broke out at the 40-floor Abbco Tower in Al Nahda in Sharjah on Tuesday night. Authorities have yet to disclose a cause for the fire.

Reports state that “one side of the building was almost entirely damaged” in the blaze.

Khaleej Times reported that at least five buildings near the engulfed residential tower were evacuated while several cars in the area were damaged by the falling debris.
