Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested three individuals for attempting to depart Himandhoo island in Alif Alif atoll, on a dinghy.

Police revealed that three Maldivians had attempted to leave the island on a dinghy close to 12am late Thursday, without the required authorization from the Covid-19 task force on the island.

Police revealed that the three individuals were caught attempting to leave on the dinghy, when authorities shone a beam on the dinghy, after which they secretly returned.

Arrested were a 28-year-old, 26-year-old and 32-year-old.

The case is under further investigation.

According to a directive issued by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru due to the Covid-19 situation in the Maldives, travelling between inhabited islands is currently prohibited.
