This was revealed by the Covid-19 task force stationed on the island.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has since brought the island with a population of 600, under monitoring after the captain of a boat from the island, “Amaaz”, tested positive for the virus.

Chairman of the island’s Covid-19 task force Musthafa Moosa told RaajjeMV that although a positive case has emerged from the island, the island is currently in a stable state overall, however, fear has churned in the hearts of the island residents.

Further, the task force has revealed that entering and leaving has been banned for eight households.

The samples were collected for direct contacts of the positive patient, and have since been sent to the capital city, Malé for testing.

The island residents are waiting for the results, he added.

The island council is extending all the assistance the community needs as residents are staying at home.

Further, the chairman went on to highlight that the island currently has plenty of face masks for the residents and that they are also available in local shops.
