World Water Day 2017
Gov. installed clean water systems in 15 islands
Environment Ministersaid that only 25 percent of the population had access to clean drinking water when President Yameen had taken office.
This figure has since grown to 39 percent, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim claimed.
The ministry cloncluded the event after having launched a Water Day logo and pamphlet. 

The government has established clean water supply systems in fifteen islands during President Abdulla Yameen’s tenure, said Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim.

At an event held in commemoration of World Water Day 2017, Minister Ibrahim said that when President Yameen had taken office, only 25 percent of the population had access to clean drinking water, which the minister claimed was just six islands. 

He added that 15 islands amount to 39 percent of the population. 

“Along with clean drinking water, the government has prioritized establishing better sewer systems in the islands” Minister Ibrahim said “As such, the government has installed sewer systems in eighteen islands”. 

The ministry cloncluded the event having launched a 'Water Day' logo and pamphlet. 

In his 2017 inaugral address, President Yameen stressed on urban development projects in the outer lying islands, President Yamin said that the government inaugurated 56 sewer renovation projects in 56 islands in 2016. Of said projects, he said 32 were beyond the designing process, and 11 were in renovation. 

The President added that said eight islands now benefit from the full-fledged results of last year’s projects.
