Govt. Crackdown
Will have to chop off fingers to cease tweeting: Lucas
Lucas’ phone confiscated by Police
Confiscated under a Court order, on grounds of dissent

Social media activist, Shamoon 'Lucas' Jaleel says that the tweets calling against the sale of Faafu Atoll can only be stopped by cutting off the fingers of twitter users.

Lucas Jaleel was summoned to Police on Friday afternoon and his phone was confiscated. In a tweet posted Friday night, after his release, Lucas said the tweets can only be stopped by cutting off the fingers of the users who call out against the sale of the Atoll. In his tweet Lucas also called against the sale of Faafu Atoll.

Lucas is a social media activist and a strong critic of the government. Of late he has been extremely critical of the Government, tweeting against it in Dhivehi, English and in Arabic.

The Court order, issued by Criminal Court Judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf, stated that Lucas’s phones and SIM cards will be confiscated for a period of three months to find evidence on dissent he had created on social media.

Lucas had been summoned to Police on multiple occasions previously. MPS alleged that his social media activism 'created negative perceptions of the armed force'. However, the investigations never progressed to prosecution due to lack of evidence.
