Travel ban imposed on Maumoon’s bodyguards
Informed of ban after check-in

A travel ban has been imposed on MNDF bodyguards of former President and PPM’s President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

The travel ban was imposed on Wednesday. The former President was scheduled to depart on a personal visit Wednesday afternoon.

Raajje.mv understands that President Maumoon and his bodyguards were made aware of the travel ban at Velana International Airport (VIA) VIP lounge. Security personnel at the airport had confiscated travel documents of the bodyguards at the lounge. Their luggage was checked in and returned bac.

MNDF Information Officer Major Adnan Mohamed reported that additional details will be revealed to media after looking into the issue. Adnan added that information pertaining to security will not be publicized, but will share information where possible.

Under the law, former Presidents are granted security and an allowance. Previously, the security fleet granted to President Yameen had been slashed, citing a rule change.

The security was slashed mere hours after President Maumoon’s son and Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon submitted a no confidence motion against Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Maseeh.
