Parliament session for Tuesday was halted, after rumors surfaced that a no confidence motion on the Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh will be put into action.
Only nine sessions of the Parliament had been held after the Parliament was convened for this year on February 6th. The opposition MPs had floated the idea of a no confidence motion on the Speaker since the opening session.
In response to these rumors, ruling PPM PG Leader and Parliament’s Majority Leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said any such motion will be defeated on the floor.
The last session of the Parliament was held on Wednesday. The session was started at 1400 hrs that day, in which the Parliament passed the bill on duty hike on energy drink and cigarettes. The Speaker had conducted the session in a different chair, as Gamu Constituency MP Fayyaz Ismail had taken over the Speaker’s chair.
No session was held this week. However, MPs from the ruling PPM and the Speaker have been seen participating in the various events held by PPM and Government.
