The Election Commission’s national advisory committee has decided to allow observers to carry lists of eligible voters into polling stations.
Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s deputy chair Ali Niyaz told RaajjeMV that the decision comes into effect immediately.
“This is an important thing, we need to know who votes and who does not” Niyaz said “This also means that observers in the local council elections will be allowed to carry a list of all voters”.
Niyaz further said he had lobbied for polling booths to be installed in Sri Lanka and all the relevant procedures be given priority, though only 900 voters had registered in the country.
He added that the Elections Commission will draw lots for candidates contesting for the local council seats on Thursday at 10 am.
The local council elections are scheduled for 15th April.
