Fonadhoo MP loses member-count wager against opposition
Fonadhoo MP Abdulla pledged to gift a year’s worth of his income to MDP if they attain a hundred members from his constituency in three days.
MDP responded that it had easily managed to attain over a hundred new members.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has responded to pro-government MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla’s gamble that the party could not attain a hundred new members from his constituency within a span of three days.

A MDP official from Fonadhoo Island in Laamu atoll told RaajjeMV that the party had easily attained over a 100 membership forms from the island in three days.

Fonadhoo constituency MP Abdulla said last Tuesday, after having heard about the opposition party’s campaign efforts in Fonadhoo, that he would transfer a year’s salary to the party if they manage to attain 100 members.

“I went to my island a few days ago, set-up a table at home, and sat down to receive membership forms to my party at 9 in the morning” explained MP Abdulla “By that evening, I had received over 300 forms –It would be impossible for MDP to even get a 100 in three days, and if they do I will gladly give them a year’s worth of my income”.

The Maldivian Democratic Party had held a sizeable demonstration in Laamu atoll, which the official explained was also intended to convey support for the party. He added that party does not wish to collect any payment, and only wished to show how gravely the parliamentarian had underestimated MDP’s capacity.
