Member of Parliament Mariya Ahmed Didi has strongly criticized Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh for the delays in the progression of the Committee drawn up to review the laws of the Parliament.
In a letter to the Speaker, Machangolhi North Constituency MP Mariya Didi said that the Committee on reviewing the laws of the Parliament was drawn up at the start of the current Parliament. She said that while it had been three years since the formation of the Commission, there was no work carried out.
Mariya said the delays were caused by the MPs from ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) that claim the majority of the Commission. As such, MP Mariya noted that the Parliament is functioning without proper laws and at the whim of the Speaker.
She added that she had been trying to communicate to the Speaker that the session must be held but to no avail.
MP Mariya, a strong critic of the Government, had tendered her resignation from the Committee, stating that she did not want to be a part of a Committee that was implicitly involved in defaming the Parliament.
