Maldives Police Service (MPS) has issued a warning, prior to the visit of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia.

As part of a rare month-long tour of Asia, the Saudi King is to visit the Maldives in March.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, MPS warned individuals against "doing anything that could violate the honour of a visiting foreign dignitary."

Noting that a number of foreign dignitaries are to arrive in the Maldives in the coming days, MPS said it had received reports that "some individuals" are planning to carry out activities that could violate the honour and sanctity of the visiting dignitaries, as well as the sovereignty of a nation.

The statement highlighted that the institution will not allow any such activities to be held, and that action will be taken against those who attempt to do so.

While King Salman is to visit Maldives this month, there has been reports that the government is planning to sell off the entire Faafu Atoll to Saudi Arabia, with the King set to sign the sale agreements during his trip.
