Parliament Secretariat had scheduled the debate on the motion submitted to the Parliament on the issue of forced memberships to ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
The motion was put forward by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Member of Parliament for Maafannu West Constituency, Mohamed Falaah.
Falaah said the motion was sent to the Parliament to alert the Parliament as the Government was deliberately using their position of power to force civil servants and employees of state owned corporations to join PPM.
In recent days, members of Cabinet, senior Government officials and officials of state owned corporations had engaged in membership drive for PPM. PPM says the aim of their drive was to fulfill a target of 150,000 members.
This is the only item on agenda for tomorrow’s meeting.
